7 Secrets All Happy Women Know

#6 of 7: Dance, Sister, Dance!

None of us want to be depressed.

Nor do we want to be unhealthily
overweight or sluggish.

We all know that MOVEMENT is the perfect
antidote for these things. BUT the truth
is that we don’t always feel like doing it!

Sounds like a catch-22, right?

One of the biggest complaints that my yoga students
and private clients have is that they can’t get
motivated to get on their yoga mats at home. The
thought of being left to their own devices for
1-2 hours seems far too intimidating.

So what do they do? They usually opt to do nothing
instead!

But I don’t judge them, because sometimes I feel
the same way.

It’s easy to have an all-or-nothing mentality;
but what really works is a little-by-little approach.
Some people call this baby steps, others call it
micro-movements. Whatever you choose to call it, it
works!

Just the other day I was feeling really lazy and
sluggish–not the kind that needed a nap, but the
kind that needed to move. So I went outside for a walk.
At first, it took a lot of willpower not to turn back
towards home, then, after about 15 minutes I was jogging.
After 25 minutes I was full-on running, feeling like I
could go on for a long time.

The same thing can happen with yoga. If you just
commit to 5 minutes on your mat, say with a few cat/cow
stretches and a downward dog, maybe 1 or 2 sun salutations,
you might find that you want to carry on. Or you might not,
and that’s OK.

Dream big. Then set small, achievable goals to move
towards that dream.

Now get moving!
